Let’s Talk about Boundaries

729) There are some of us that often take on the blame for situations that we were not responsible for. We could go into all kinds of psychological reasons for this, but placing boundaries and keeping them there is very difficult.

As I read 1 Kings 18:16-19 and the chapter surrounding it, I have tried to place myself in Elijah’s sandals. This was a period of history when there was a great famine in the area and the wicked King Ahab knows that Elijah, as God’s representative, was responsible for this. When the two enemies meet, Ahab comes on strong and blames Elijah for this. Elijah exercises his boundaries and tells Ahab that “I have not made trouble for Israel but you and your family have.”

Ahab doesn’t take kindly to Elijah’s words but we can learn something here. Boundaries are necessary in life. They are also a foundation to stand on if they are in alignment with what is good for us, Biblically, psychologically, emotionally, physically and mentally. Elijah does not apologize for this and neither should we.
