Be Still

2027) When I approach familiar verses to study, it’s a regular practice of mine to look up the words in their original language. It often proves to be insightful.   Once such verse is Psalm 46:10. Be still and know that I am God.   The word for still in Hebrew is raphah which means

The Value of Easy

2026) Wouldn’t it be nice if important things were easy?   When you need to visit someone in their last hours on this earth.  When it seems that your life goal cannot be accomplished? When you need to confront someone about how they have treated you. Those of you who are wise are shaking your

But, What About?

2025) There is so much about God I don’t understand, especially when reading verses like these:   Psalm 34:17–When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.   Philippians 4:19–My God will supply every need.   Matthew 11:28- Come to me…and I will give you rest.

Needy

2024) Teaching my young scholars there is a difference between wants and needs is difficult. Why? Because it’s difficult for adults to distinguish too. What I think I need may not really be classified as a need in God’s eyes.   Having written these sentences, my mind goes immediately to a God who sits up

Sing!

2023) Music has always been important to me. I love to sing and have even had the opportunity and privilege of having weekly voice lessons for a year from a teacher who trains classical voices around the world.   Music expresses thoughts and emotions on an entirely different level. It can go straight to the

A Legacy

2022) I have always liked using object lessons in my classroom. It gives my young scholars a visual that, hopefully, will connect their minds to concepts that are challenging.   As a writer, I know objects aren’t the only way to connect people to nebulous topics. Stories can do the same thing. These stories can

Finish not Win

2021) I am competitive, and this can be a good thing. It means I work hard in order to come out near or at the top. Whoever I represent (including myself) will benefit from my hard work.   BUT, competitiveness can be a weakness. Sometimes it makes me forget what is truly important and I

I’m Thinking

2020) I have learned so much from being a teacher for almost 40 years. For example, I’ve learned that a good lesson plan is the best classroom management tool. I’ve realized I must change my approach to a class of kids who no longer think, live and exist in a world I started out in.

Do Unto Others

2019) I haven’t lived in the South for over 20 years. Even though I’ve been away for more than two decades, I’m fairly certain most people would be familiar with the Golden Rule. Here in New England, I’m not sure how many, especially the young, could quote it.   The Golden Rule is helpful in

Images

2018) Mirrors have changed through time. At one point, people gazed into polished metal to see a reflection of themselves. I smile when I think of what they saw compared to what our mirrors today reveal. But even our mirrors are limiting.   Our reflection in the mirror doesn’t show us everything. For one reason,
