Umpires

1224) There are at least two jobs I would never choose to have. One is being a school bus driver and the other, an umpire. I don’t know how school bus drivers do it. I would either lose my mind or go to jail. Umpires fall close to these same feelings and reactions. Have you

Get Dressed: Love

1223) Some think that love is an easy garment to wear. What do you think? A teen might think you can’t help who you love, so that makes that outfit comfortable. But life experience has taught the rest of us that love is probably the most difficult coat to wear. The love referred to in

Get Dressed: Forgiving

1222) Much has been written about the subject of forgiveness and, rightfully so. Forgiveness is a garment that isn’t always comfortable. It may be “itchy”, irritating our emotional skin. It can be very heavy, costing us energy that we don’t always feel we can produce. The bottom line, forgiveness is hard to wear but very

Get Dressed: Bearing Up

1220) The older I get, the harder it is to wear the garment of patience. From what I have observed, this seems to be true with most people. Because of this, I have to ask myself why? Perhaps we just tire quickly so when people do annoying things, it’s hard to bite your tongue and

Get Dressed: Gentleness

1219) Grocery shopping isn’t one of my favorite activities. I don’t really mind the opportunity of buying something that I would love to enjoy eating; it’s the number of times I actually move every item in my cart. Let’s think about that. First, you move the item from the shelf to your cart. Then you

Get Dressed: Humility

1218) Social media has made humility an expensive garment. Most of our posts usually display our best selves and when they don’t, it’s easy to weave in some threads of victimhood. Humility is a superpower that isn’t tapped into enough. Paul tells us to put on the clothing of humility in Colossians 3:12-14.. This means

Get Dressed: Kindness

1217) We often tell children to be kind to one another. Have you ever stopped to evaluate if we are putting on the garment of kindness? In some ways, being kind is easy. An empathetic look or nod of the head or a gently spoken word communicates kindness. Other garments of kindness are not so

Get Dressed: Compassion

1216) When the seasons change in Maine, I spend a morning moving my clothes from one season and replacing those for the upcoming one. Winter and summer here are dominant seasons (though those of you in warmer climates won’t think our summers are “real” ones). The fall and spring seasons often just meld into them.

Feeding the Fire

1215) Several years ago, when I was living in North Carolina, my husband and I had just turned off the light at bedtime and as my head hit the pillow, I head a loud boom! Both of us sat up straight, unsure of what happened. I got up and looked out the window. I immediately
