Get a Grip

2645)  One of my strong points is that I have an active curiosity.

For example, I always wondered how a vending machine knows you’re putting a real dollar bill into it; and that it can also detect which denomination of a bill it was, too. So, I did some research to find out. (You’ll have to do your own research to discover the answer.)

My curiosity is helpful as I read Psalm 115:9. It says, O Israel, trust the Lord. He is your helper and your shield.  (NLT)

I know there’s power behind these words alone, but when I sit and meditate on them, my cynic within speaks up. It says, what about the times you begged for help and God didn’t help? Or, what about when something horrible happened? God didn’t seem to shield me.

This is where my curiosity kicks in. I trust God enough to know he truly is God over my life but I also know what I have experienced in this life.

What if this verse is telling me more than just the fact that God helps and shields? What about all the times God stepped in to help me and I have been unaware of it? I’ve done this with people from time to time. I’ve helped in the background without others’ notice.

What about the things God has shielded me from that I don’t realize? I’ve shielded some people in my life because they needed shielding, and they may never know I’ve done this.

Trusting God to help and shield when it’s best, whether I am aware of it, is an act of faith.

Getting a grip on this concept is helpful.
