Who is Jesus? Flesh

1273) There are many things about God I do not understand. I believe, by faith, one day I will, but until then, they stir curiosity within me. One of these things concerns how Jesus, the son of the God of all the universe, became a man. In my mind, I picture a cartoon body of

Who Represents You?

1272) In my novel, The Bottle House, there is a lawyer named Stefan Kraus. Because I admire lawyers, I wanted to include one in my novel and as I dug into the soil of my imagination; I wrote what I hope is a good representation of the strengths and struggles of one who has chosen

How to Pray: For Those in Authority

1271) I have had the privilege of traveling in ten different countries. Each one of them gave me a view of the world I had not had previously. Some of these countries had large populations of very poor people and others had strict government policies, making me grateful that I live in the United States.

How to Pray: Thanksgiving

1270) I read about a psychological experiment recently when an expert in this area asked a group of people to show their reaction to bad news. Every single person adopted a “closed” stance where their bodies curled into themselves. It was only a matter of seconds when there was a feeling of sadness in the

Genuineness

1286) When I taught high school Bible, we had a weekly competition called, “Bible Rivals”. This would be what some of us old-timers called “Sword Drills” when a Bible reference is called out and you try to find it in the Bible as fast as you can. Whoever found the verse first would win a

How to Pray: Intercession

1269) When I was young, I had the privilege of attending a Christian camp. We got to take part in many fun things, from horseback riding to canoeing. One summer, I took archery and found out it is much more difficult than I thought it would be. In order to hit the target, I had

How to Pray: Prayers

1268) As I read 1 Timothy 2:1, I see what looks like Paul repeating himself. In this verse, he tells us how to pray for others and in his specific list he then says we are to offer “prayers” for others. It is redundant as it reads in our English translation so it’s obvious that

How to Pray: Petitions

1267) When you teach a child about prayer, it could be a conversation about some out-of-this-world, spiritual action, and that would be correct, but a child would better understand that prayer is really a conversation between someone and God. The next question is natural. What do I talk about? This, too, has an easy answer,

20-20 Vision

1266) One thing I’m really looking forward to about the next life is I will finally have 20-20 vision. No, I’m not talking about my eyesight; I refer to my spiritual sight. Let’s think about that. What would it mean to you to no longer see yourself as you do, but how God sees you?

The Dangers of Counterfeits

1265) In the years I have spent writing these minutes, I believe I mentioned, at least once, my trip to the U.S. Mint when I was in high school, but it’s worth repeating. When we visited the Mint, our tour-guide informed us of those whose sole job was looking for counterfeit money. He asked us
