2609) When I was in high school, some girls would wear their boyfriend’s class ring. This made a statement that she “belonged” to or was in a relationship with him.
This was something that could make a girl feel better about herself; after all, everyone could see that someone wanted her.
John 13:34-35 tells us we can show others we belong to God by how we love others.
Yes, this means we care, place a top priority on, and are patient with others, etc. This seems to be a straightforward decision.
What I am thinking about today, however, is another way I can love others, and that is when I screw up, I apologize.
When I say spiteful words, I can go to that person and tell them I’m sorry.
I can redo something I rushed through at the expense of someone else.
These things also show I belong to God because God is all about forgiving, making restitution possible. I don’t need a class ring to show others I belong to God; my behavior shows this, or not.
