If It Doesn’t Work…

2601) Have you ever wondered why we sometimes repeat specific words or behaviors when they have a history of not delivering the outcome we wanted?

For example, my young scholars might tell me that the pencil sharpener isn’t sharpening, and yet, they continue to use the sharpener and the pencil gets smaller. I’d look at them and say, well, if it doesn’t work, why do you keep doing it?

How much time and energy could this simple question save us in life?

1 Peter 3:9 tells us that repaying evil for evil, and I’d like to think it’s applicable in any retaliatory situation, doesn’t make the situation better.

It doesn’t end the argument. It doesn’t convince someone else of our point of view. It doesn’t make life better. Maybe it’s time to remember that God often tells us what to do or not do because, in his wisdom and knowledge, his way will always work better, even if we don’t always believe it at the moment.
