2536) When I was in high school, we often had what was called Singspiration at one of our youth group leaders’ houses. We had a wide repertoire, and one of them included the song, Let There Be Peace on Earth.

The subject of peace brings many words and reactions. Will there ever be peace in the Middle East? I must keep the peace. All I want is some peace and quiet.

James 3:8 also addresses the subject of peace. It reads, a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. (ESV)

What I find interesting about this verse is it reveals what peace gives birth to, and that’s righteousness or right-ness. The seed of peace isn’t sewn because I feel it; it’s because I both use it as a tool and a seed.

Peace also doesn’t fit within a bubble. It’s not something to be enjoyed solely because it can benefit and soothe me; it’s relational in nature.

Choosing to keep peace, making shaky relationships better, is a link to righteousness for the giver and the receiver. It seems to follow this pattern. Loving others produces Christ-like behavior because the author of love loves.

Do you want more peace in your life? It doesn’t have to be situation-specific. It can be as simple as making a choice.
