2532) The definition of the word love takes on a myriad of meaning. For teens, it’s a passion of thrills, excitement, and hope. For a mother, it’s sacrificial in nature. Hollywood brands love with feelings that propels into a quick commitment without weighing the realities of life.

Because of these definitions that bombard us every day, it’s easy to lose focus that love is sacrificial. Check out 1 Corinthians 13 for specifics.

Paul also points out in Romans 13:8-10 that we should owe nothing to people but to love them. A teen may frown and wonder how they can love by choice and not in feelings.

The mother who has made a commitment by bringing a child into this world may wonder how to love them because she hasn’t considered the cost of motherly selflessness.

Hollywood cannot fathom love that isn’t rooted in feelings of euphoria, and yet, God demonstrated exactly what love is. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

What the world needs now is love, sweet love. A love that is sacrificial, patient, kind, not envious, not boasting, not proud. It’s not self-seeking, not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love doesn’t delight in evil but rejoices with truth. Love protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

Oh, what the world would be like if we all embraced this love. Guess what? If you’re God’s child, you will experience this in the next life.
