Chains

2465) There have been a few people in my life who I have considered very difficult to not hate. They were often people who had treated me poorly.

The problem with hatred and animosity is it chains us, emotionally and spiritually, to the object of our wrath.

In 1 John 3:15, the author recognizes this and reaffirms Jesus’ words in the Sermon on the Mount that hating another makes us murderers.

Letting go of resentment, anger, and hatred, by choice, is like breaking the chain that has kept us bound to the abuser. Choosing to let go of our resentment gives us back the control of our lives rather than letting the object of our hatred control us.
