Share not Remove

2458) If you have an empathetic heart, it’s easy to want to fix things for those we love. The ability to feel along with others is a gift, but not so we can remove what is bringing pain.

We don’t have the power to do that, but we can share other’s burdens.

In 2 Timothy 2:3, Paul admonishes us to share in the suffering of others. So, if we can’t “fix” the suffering, what can we do?

We can bring our silent presence to the sufferer, communicating that they are not alone. We can listen and cry along with others.

We can make sure the suffering one has what they physically need, such as food and doing household chores that are overlooked. We can give the gift of sharing in the suffering of others, even though we cannot remove the pain.
