2395) In my reading, I often see authors refer to the fact that one’s own perceptions are reality to them. There is wisdom in keeping this in mind, but we need to be careful in concluding that since it’s one’s perception, it is reality.
For example, when someone is paranoid, their perception is that everyone is out to get them. Is this accurate? Most of the time it isn’t.
It’s hard for us to look through lenses of truth because our eyes are, this side of eternity, spiritually nearsighted.
Because of this, it’s important to consider Psalm 147:5. Here, the psalmist tells us how great God is and emphasizes that God’s understanding is beyond measure. (NIV)
The Hebrew word for understanding is tabuwn, which means to have insight that penetrates beneath surface data to the principles that govern reality. (biblehub.com)
Though our perceptions can be built on faulty reasoning, God’s aren’t. He always knows the truth because he is Truth. John 14:6.
