2638) Would you rather activities are popular these days. Books present choices that urge the reader to decide between them.
Would you rather be stung by a bee or covered in spiders?
Would you rather be stuck in an elevator filled with people who talk too much or with people who never talk?
You’ve got the idea.
Song of Solomon 8:6 gives us another would you rather question but phrased in a different way. It reads: Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the Lord. (ESV)
What the writer is asking is, would you rather have love or jealousy? It seems to be a no-brainer but is it really?
How often do we see something someone else has or can do, and we don’t or can’t and are a little resentful?
Do we treat others lovingly, or do we belittle because we envy them?
Do we choose to build others up or do we tear them down because it makes us feel superior?
Life is not a game, and we really do have choices to make each day. Love or jealousy is one of them.
