2614) For various reasons, many have learned to spend time looking backward, viewing all the pain or good times as if they fear losing them.
Many also spend time looking toward the future. What do they need to get ready? Where will they be in 5 years?
I don’t think either of these things are bad in moderation, but Jesus tells us at least twice that today should be the day that is important.
Jesus tells us God will give us our daily bread in Matthew 6:11. He doesn’t say to look for leftovers that may not be good. Today, God will give us what we need.
Jesus also tells us in Matthew 6:34 that we should not spend our time worrying about what went wrong or could in the coming days.
He said, and I paraphrase it, don’t worry about what may or may not happen tomorrow. Today has enough concerns.
Putting these two timely verses together, we will have difficulties today, but God will provide whatever nourishment and things needed to carry us through. Today is the day.
