2613) I was recently reading about Nicholas Winton, who was a British citizen traveling in Prague in 1938. He witnessed the treatment of Jews as Nazi Germany established itself in Poland.
Wisely seeing what was ahead for the Jews, Winton decided to save as many children as he could by having them brought to Great Britain. He had immigration papers created and found foster families for the children. He raised money to finance it and helped arrange for the kids to travel. Winton saved 669 mostly Jewish children.
In 1988, a British television show honored Winton, and unknown to him, people whose lives he had saved filled the audience. The show revealed this to him, overwhelming him along with many others present.
This is a beautiful picture of what Paul meant in 2 Timothy 1:6 when he said to fan the flame of the gift of God. Salvation is the gift and God wants us to actively use the resources he’s given us to do so. Fan the flame.
