2504) There is so much that happens in our modern world here in America, and if you look and listen closely, you can frequently see and hear the actions of others based on a sense of entitlement.
I’m entitled to rage while driving. I’m entitled to spreading the “true” story of what happened. I’m entitled to tell others off at the drop of a hat.
This entitlement is not supported by God’s word. In fact, Deuteronomy 11:31 gives us a glimpse of what God expects from us.
Here, the Israelites were told to cross the Jordan River and take possession of the land God was giving them. What? Doesn’t this lend to entitlement? The answer to this is yes and no.
Yes, God promises Israel a land flowing with milk and honey, and yet, no, it did not arrive on a golden platter.
For God’s people to get this promised land, they would have to actively work at getting it. This meant wars, battles, obedience, faith, endurance, and more. As I reflect upon the events connected with this verse, I am reminded that the things you have to work for are of greater value.
