Pretzels and Paws

2471) When I was walking my little dachshund, Cayce yesterday, he was delighted to find that someone had left of trail of discarded chocolate covered pretzels on the road.

Because Cayce has a very sensitive stomach and usually vomits when eating stuff like this, I quickly told him no, and he immediately left the wonderful morsels alone.

I got to thinking about the fact that I’ve had other dogs who wouldn’t even be phased by my command and the pretzels would be consumed instantly. I thought about this dog in comparison to those.

Cayce has learned to trust me. There have been several times I’ve rescued him from porcupines, wild cars on the road, and ticks, and I’d like to think he has learned that when he obeys me, life is better.

Psalm 56:3-4 reflects these thoughts. It tells us we should obey God as a result of learning to trust that he has our best interests at heart. There are always better outcomes when we do. God doesn’t always tell us, no, like I did with Cayce, but when he does, we can learn to trust him and immediately change our direction to a better pathway.
