The truth in negative is, if you were horribly criticized, you might have the tendency of being critical of others. In the positive, if you were taught manners, you often will use them in your adult life.
These thoughts are reflected in Luke 6:36. Here, Jesus tells us to give mercy to others because we have been given mercy from God.
Mercy here specifically means receiving tangible help when afflicted. (biblehub.com).
Because God gives us powerful help, we should extend it to others. The interesting thing is, if you are unaware or have not meditated on this help God gives, it’s much more difficult to be merciful. Perhaps a good thing is to sit with this mercy from God so we can give it to others.
