Does Almost Count?

2388) It occurred to me the other day that the use of the words, almost  ” opens the door to many situations.

I almost got there on time. I almost forgot to grab the keys. I almost ran short of flour. I almost fell asleep.

Sometimes almost is used to diminish the results. I almost didn’t make it. I almost fell apart. I almost considered leaving.

There are times when I’ve used this word to negate when God has done something for or through me. I almost didn’t make it through this horrible circumstance. I almost lost my way.

For God, almost is just a word. Sometimes almost is just enough in the moment; a time when too much would have shut me down.

Isaiah 42:3 tells us a bruised reed (almost mortally injured) he will not break, and a smoldering (almost burned down) wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will (even when it’s an almost) bring forth justice. NIV. Almost does count.
