A Wise Answer

2605) Growing up in the church, I was always confused when I heard adults say they are listening to God’s words and guidance.

A child can only process this in terms of what he or she knows and they will often think, God’s words and guidance must be audible and even in face-to-face interaction.

Because in this life God is not visible in this sense, a child wonders, and I’m sure adults do too, how they/we can know what God’s wisdom and guidance is in any given situation?

Proverbs 2:6 tells us the Lord gives wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, but how is this communicated?

For believers, the Holy Spirit guides us. This guidance might come through something we read in the Bible. It might come through that inner part within us that is often referred to as a gut reaction.

Guidance and wisdom might come from another person, and sometimes God communicates directly with us, via a whispered promise or peace. James 1:5 tells us if we lack wisdom, we need to ask God for it and the more we know God, the easier it becomes to identify his direction and guidance.
