Little Adjustments

2422) Many years ago, we had a guest speaker in our church; someone I knew from the Bible college I attended. This servant of God had a bad accident years before when his fingers on both hands were crushed, and now all of his fingers were permanently bent at the first knuckle.

I remember specifically looking at his hands as he spoke, and I wondered what his journey had been like in coming to terms with his handicap.

Instead of bitterness, he spoke with urgency and contentment. He explained that a Christian’s journey could be described as a series of adjustments in the way we think, feel, and interact with others, including God.

I’ve never forgotten this because it’s important to realize that most changes in our lives, good and bad, root in a series of adjustments.

For example, 1 Corinthians 15:33 warns us that bad company ruins good morals. (ESV)

It’s important to recognize that bad company can cause a series of adjustments, one little move at a time, and before we know it, we’re in the ditch.

It can also mean that each time we make a decision to respond with kindness instead of blasting someone is an adjustment.

Little adjustments are important.
