2283) When I was in college, I had a roommate who was from Japan. I was amazed at her comprehension of the English language but even with this, she sometimes struggled with understanding.
Why? Because English is a language that has many figures of speech. So many things we say can’t be taken literally.
The same is true in the Bible. There are many figures of speech that need to be explored. One of them is in Luke 8:8.
Here, Jesus has finished telling the parable of the sower–the one whose seeds fell on four different soils. All representing different ways people accept God’s words.
After telling the parable, Jesus said, let he who has ears to hear, let him hear.
This figure of speech isn’t referring to your hearing but rather the ability to hear God’s words. To digest them and apply them to your life.
God has chosen to give us the ability to hear his words. It’s up to us weather we “hear” and incorporate them into our lives.
