A Learned Behavoir

2046) When a baby is born and begins to grow, one of its milestones is learning how to speak. It’s exciting to hear a baby’s first words and as more words are added to the young one’s vocabulary; it’s an endearing thing.

As I think of this milestone, I wonder if it would be a helpful thing to celebrate learning how not to speak when it wouldn’t be helpful.

There are days when I’ll lament within my soul something unkind, unhelpful and even judgmental that I have spoken. It reminds me I need to continually work on avoiding unhelpful comments in tempting moments.

This is exactly what Proverbs 21:23 is referring to. It tells us that holding our tongues can keep us out of a lot of trouble.

Ain’t that the truth?
