1953) If you’re like me, you’ve seen many things in this life you wish you had not. Throughout my years of teaching, I have seen horrific things. After witnessing these, it makes me wonder, where is God in all the destruction? Luke 4:18 tells us.
Jesus, at the end of this verse, tells us he came to free the oppressed. The Greek world for oppressed is thrauó, which can be translated as one who is spiritually crushed.
Jesus tells us he sets these people (us) free. The Greek word for free here is aphesis, which translates to a release, pardon and complete forgiveness.
Why did Jesus come? Because he knew we needed forgiveness, so we can be completely free to do the job he has for us in this life.
This type of freedom is worth everything to have.
