Two Gates

1776) Sometimes, a fresh way to meditate on Scripture is to combine two truths found within the pages of God’s word. Today, I’d like to think about two gates.

We can find the first one in Matthew 7:13. Here, Jesus tells us there is a wide gate that many go through and this road leads to destruction. This gate is often well-polished, luxurious, and appealing.

In Matthew 16:18, the author describes the gates of hell will not prevail (overpower) God’s church. This gate may promise power, prominence and importance.

From these two passages, it seems there are deceptive gates, and it’s important to discern not only the true composition of the gate but also the destination of the path once you step through it.
