1713) John Doone wrote in 1624, no man is an island and yet, how many of us believe we are?
Sometimes I make myself an island without realizing it. My thinking is, I am the one who is responsible for a specific thing, not anyone else. I don’t want to bother others when I can just do it. I don’t have to change my schedule by including others. You get the point.
Yet, in all these good rationalizations, I forget others need the blessing of helping me with an important work. I don’t realize there are others who want to help me, if I’d let them. I’d realize by including others, it challenges my safety zone because life is not predictable, no matter how much I try to make it be.
Ephesians 4:2 tells us it is our responsibility to hold up each other and if we won’t let this happen, we are hindering others from obeying God’s admonishment in this verse.
Islands have their purpose, but keeping yourself separated from others prevents blessings for yourself and the people around you.
