1683) When I was in school, I was afraid to disobey the teacher. Fear of punishment is the way most discipline was done. Through the years, educators and many parents have figured out that fear is a poor motivator. If the only reason a student does not do something is fear of the consequences, when they grow up and the fear is no longer there, they have little reason to comply with the laws of society.
If love can be the motivator behind good behavior, the long-term results are better. A. The teacher loves the student and provides discipline in an atmosphere of love. B. The student feels accepted and the desire to do what is right grows.
John 14:15 tells us this very thing. If you love me, you will keep my commandments. Love is the motivation and not fear. What would our world be like if there was more love and less fear?
