Death and Life Examined

1393) Some say the greatest mystery in this life is death. Their reasoning is most likely because this is something you cannot experience but once and the majority of people cannot tell us of their experience. I have to disagree with them. Yes, semantics are in play here.

I believe we all experience death while in this life. It may be the death of a person, the death of love, death of a dream, death of a pet, just to give a few examples. When these things wash into our lives, it can knock us completely off our feet and getting back up can be arduous.

What do you do when you find yourself in the quicksand of death? My first thought is I will try everything within to wish it away; to make it not true in my mind and heart. It’s a natural response but not a helpful one.

The bad news is we cannot wish pain away in this life; it just doesn’t work. We can try to distract ourselves from dealing with the pain, but it always comes back. There is another option, however, that’s a better choice.

John 12:24 tells us when a kernel of wheat drops to the ground, and it dies, there is nothing you can do about it; it’s dead. If you were depending on this kernel to feed you and your family at the moment, hope is shaken up. BUT the rest of the verse tells us the wonderful news about death. It says the death of a single kernel will produce (not can produce) life and an abundance of wheat.

What I understand this to mean is this life brings death in many forms, but in this death, God can resurrect and produce so much good from this dark enemy. He will, ultimately, destroy death and those of us who have our names in the Lamb’s Book of Life will be comforted for eternity. There is life that resurrects within death.
