2628) Think about a time when you were seriously contemplating doing something you knew in your gut you shouldn’t do.
Maybe you think it will feel good in the moment. Maybe the act will give you more prestige with others. Maybe you just want the experience like you see others doing.
When these times come, John 10:10 is a good verse to remember. It tells us exactly what’s going on and what the outcome will be.
Jesus said in the first part of the verse, the thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. Taking this truth to the next step in our minds, Jesus is saying what motivation this thief (Satan) has.
Satan will use anything he can to steal anything good God has given. He wishes to kill us, maybe only in our hearts. His only goal is to destroy us; the very thing God created and loves.
On the other hand, Jesus next points out that he came to earth to give us abundance, or a truly fulfilling life. His motivation is love.
If faced with an outcome of being stolen from, killed within and without, and ultimately being destroyed, OR making the right choice reinforcing the abundant life God meant us to have, a good question is: what’s my motivation?
