Valuables

2495) One of the things I collected as a child was pretty rocks. I had in my old cigar box a collection of my favorite ones.

As I would look through my rocks, I mistakenly thought I had some valuable ones, yet in reality, they held no monetary value. There was intrinsic value in them; they were pretty, and I had found them and collected them.

Thinking about my rocks (which I still have in the old cigar box), I am reminded of Luke 12:34. It reads that where my treasure is, my heart will also be there. In other words, you can tell a lot about people’s character by what they value.

Does this mean that anything of this earth we value is detrimental to our faith? I don’t think so; rather, if we value something so much, we are virtually controlled by needing and desiring it is when it becomes problematic. It’s good to remember that the things of this earth are temporary; while relationships with God are eternal.
