Breath

2454) Several years ago, I visited Colorado Springs for a teacher’s conference. I found the scenery stunning, but there was something I hadn’t counted on, and that was the difficulty of breathing.

Because the area has such a high elevation, it affected my intake of air; not seriously, but enough to notice.

I think of this when I read Colossians 3:23. Here Paul says: Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.(ESV)

The Greek word for heartily is psuché, which translates as breathing. When Paul admonishes us to do our work heartily, he’s saying make what we do for the Lord as continual and natural as breathing.

Our work for God should be in all aspects of our lives.
