2426) Being a writer, as is true with other professions, isn’t as easy as it looks. When I started out, trying to get into the publishing world, I had no idea it was so grueling.
You’ve got to brainstorm, choose a subject, write it, edit it over and over again. You have to design your author website or hire someone to do it for you. Hire an illustrator (if your piece needs pictures).
You need to research publishers you think will work with your writing. Write 40-50 publishers to see if any are interested. If you are offered a contract (and that’s very hard to do), there are conference calls with your editor and publisher.
You have to get professional headshots, agree on a cover, ask people to review your book, gather keywords to help people find your book. You have to write the blurb for the back cover. Apply for and pay for ISBN numbers.
Hire someone to format your book (if self-publishing). Create a media press kit and promote your book day after day after day.
I tell you all of this because when you have an understanding of what a gift, talent, or responsibility costs the creator, you are recognizing their light as it shines before others. Matthew 5:16. When we choose to use the gifts God has given us, our light can penetrate others’ lives and make an eternal difference. Shining this light can be difficult and time-consuming, but this is what we are meant to do with our time on earth.
