More Than Needed

2408) I can remember hearing, as a child, the Bible story about Jesus feeding the 5,000. I remember the amazement I had when I heard Jesus could feed so many with only 5 small loaves of bread and 2 fish.

Reading John 6:1-15, I am reminded that after everyone was fed, the disciples gathered 12 baskets of leftovers from this meal. Jesus had provided more than was needed.

When I read the first part of 2 Corinthians 9:8, Jesus’ miracle comes to mind. It reads, And God is able to make all grace abound to you… (ESV) The word “abound” in Greek means more than is needed.

When we have a need, whether it is finding my car keys or forgiveness. Whether it is help with a broken-down car or patience, God provides whatever we need if we’ll come to him. One thing I do need to remember, though, my idea of a need may not be the same as God’s. We need to continue to learn to trust him with our needs, real or perceived.
