2407) When I was young, I can remember hearing for the first time the phrase, don’t judge a book by its cover. I recall frowning in thought and concluding that I do judge a book this way. It made me question the validity and accuracy of this statement.
When I go to the library or bookstore, I know much of the time whether I will like a book are not by gazing at the cover.
When I read Proverbs 18:10, I think of book covers. The verse says The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe. (ESV) What’s the connection?
The verse says the righteous man runs to God’s tower, but why don’t others? It makes sense for anyone to run to a strong tower when in battle, so why don’t all people run there?
Perhaps it’s because God’s strong tower may not appear strong to those who are not his children. Perhaps this tower has structure characteristics that many other towers don’t.
Perhaps this tower was built with completely different materials. Maybe God’s tower is of a different shape than others.
As I conclude my thoughts, I can change the common phrase and make it, don’t judge a tower by how it looks. Not everything is what it seems.
