2350) The four Gospels record the events of Jesus’ life and things associated with them.
Matthew emphasizes Jesus is the Messiah. Mark emphasizes Jesus is a servant. Luke tells us details which focus on the humanity of Jesus. John points out Jesus is God’s son and the mission he had was to save the world from sin.
There are a handful of biblical events listed in all four Gospels. They include the feeding of the 5,000, and Jesus’ trial, death and resurrection.
These things truly are significant events in Jesus’ life, and their emphasis in the four gospels is important.
There’s a verse I’m looking at this morning that is recorded in three of the four gospels, so I conclude it’s important too.
All the verses read similarly to Mark’s words in 8:36. They are, for what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? (ESV)
It’s apparent we humans have the propensity to focus overly on things of this life, which are temporal. Jesus wanted to make it clear this isn’t good because all things on this earth will be gone one day. Our souls are not included in the temporary. Our spirits will go on after our death. Jesus urgently wants to remind us to focus on these things and not on things that will one day be gone.
