Rolling

2342) There are some days that are more difficult to be a teacher than others. One such time is when we have indoor recess. It’s almost always related to weather. (Though I remember a few times way back when we had indoor recess because black bears were at the school dumpster having a snack.)

This is a difficult thing because the kids don’t get to run around. Instead, they have to play in the open area outside our classrooms. There’s always trouble because of this.

One of the things the kids do is get a basketball and roll it to each other while sitting on the floor. (Keep in mind, too, that the ball is often in the air–which it shouldn’t be-and “rolled” at a disliked kid, just because.)

This activity came to mind when I read Proverbs 16:3. The verse reads: commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established. (ESV)

The word for commit is galal in Hebrew, and it can be translated as “roll” down, toward, etc.

With this in mind, the proverb now reads, roll your works to the Lord. Whatever we wish to do, it’s an opportunity to do it for the Lord, almost like giving a gift.

The verse goes on to say our plans will be established or built. Jesus said he is the chief cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20) and he will build his church upon it. (Matthew 16:18).

We have the opportunity to be a part of the structure Jesus is building, so let’s get what we do rolling toward him.
