2271) Part of maturity is gaining wisdom and weighing gratification.

Many things give you gratification in the moment, but if you wait, it is much greater.

Do you want to do things for others so they, or those who witness it, will praise you in the moment, or will you choose to do these things “quietly,” knowing God will reward you later?

These choices are what Jesus is referring to in Matthew 6:1. He says plainly that we must choose to get a small reward now from people, or a greater one later on from God.

It’s a choice.
