2195) I recently read about the big test God gave Abraham in Genesis 22. It’s an unbelievable story of love, trust and deliverance.

From previous chapters in Genesis, we read that Abraham and Sarah waited many years before God provided their son, Isaac. Then God asked Abraham to sacrifice this son he had waited years for.

In this chapter of anguish, Abraham and Isaac climb the mountain and the child notices in verse 7, we have fire and wood for the sacrifice, but where is the lamb for the offering? Abraham replies in verse 8, God will provide the lamb.

Did Abraham get a special message ahead of time as to what would happen? No. Verse 1 of chapter 22 tells us God was testing (nacah in Hebrew, meaning to test what something is made of) Abraham.

Yet, in spite of the years of waiting, the joy of a son and an unusual command from God, Abraham trusted him and God provided a ram to be substituted for Isaac. I bet father and son both took a deep breath.

God provided a son after years of barrenness and a ram, which Abraham didn’t have with him.

God always provides what’s within his will what we cannot.
