The Mystery of Prayer

2126) I have an inquisitive mind. Like most things, it’s a blessing, and at others, it’s not helpful.

One time, I wanted to understand how a photocopy machine worked. I thought it was interesting to place a document or photo on the machine and it would reproduce another version of the original.

I did discover how this machine does its magic, but there are some things in this life which are part understandable and part mystery. Prayer is one of these things.

I know prayer is to draw us closer to God like any other relationship we choose to reveal thoughts and feelings. On the other hand, since God knows everything about us, isn’t what we share old news?

I also know some answers to this.   In Luke 5:16, the author tells us Jesus took time to withdraw from people and pray. This verse isn’t the only place Jesus did this.

I find this a mystery because Jesus, the God/man, still went off to pray. Verses such as this one leave me in a space of some understanding.

The good news is, I don’t need to understand completely. I can read this verse and profit from the reminder that I need to imitate Christ and if Jesus found this to be important, then I should, too.

Not all mysteries on this earth will be solved, but we can go with what we do know. This is faith.
