My Daughter

2125) In Mark 5, we read of two daughters. One, at the age of 12, was dying. The other was a woman who had been bleeding for 12 years.

Beside the fact that Jesus raises from the dead the 12-year-old, and healed the woman who had suffered 12 years, I think it’s interesting that both were tied into the number 12.

The second incredible thing is both these people were called daughter. One by the father of the child and the other by Jesus.    I don’t know why Jesus called the woman with the bleeding problem, daughter, but I do know that assigning her with this title is an endearing thing.

The people in New Testament times would have stayed away from this woman who was ceremonially unclean; therefore, someone they would shun.

Jesus’ words may have been something this woman really needed to hear; that she belonged somewhere.

I don’t know if these ideas are accurate, but I do know Jesus calling me daughter would be a special blessing.   We are all urged to call God abba, which means Daddy. Matthew 6:9. This is also telling us we are God’s sons and daughters.

Thank God there are no orphans in God’s family.
