What You Choose to See

2114) Most of you know John the Baptist was Jesus’ cousin. They most likely grew up together, playing games little boys played in those days.

Most likely, John and Jesus grew up in homes where traditional Jewish observances were held. They probably laughed and shared jokes and more.

Assuming this is true, John makes an incredible statement in Luke 3:16. He tells of one who is to come who is more powerful than him and whose straps of sandals he’s not worthy to untie.

John believed, by faith, Jesus is the son of God. But, some of you may think, no wonder John had such faith, he grew up with Jesus and they surely had conversations about how and why Jesus arrived on this earth. But is this a faith advantage?

If it is, then shouldn’t all of Nazareth also be as faith-filled as John? Maybe, but we read in scripture that many of these people rejected Jesus, perhaps because they also saw Jesus grow up as a typical boy in those days.

All of us see events with the lenses of our experience and understanding, but not all of our vision is focused. It would be helpful to visit the biblical eye doctor, the Bible, to help reveal if our eyes are truly focused and sharp.
