2072) There are all sorts of phrases in the English language that have a significant reason to ponder them before you repeat them.
One is sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me. This saying should be shelved and never retrieved. It truly is a ridiculous statement.
Another saying that is equally ridiculous at face value is forgive and forget.
I’ve marveled when someone uses this phrase because, as humans, we don’t have a switch we flip in our hearts and mind, so we automatically forget.
I am convinced God does not forget. What about God throwing our sins away as far as the east is from the west? (Psalm 103:12)
That forgetting is not what I’m referring to. 1 John 1:9 tells us when we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive.
Because I have asked God to accept his son’s payment of death in my place, God remembers I am his. He will always forgive me.
God remembers. That is truly amazing.
