2071) Lately, rest is something I don’t feel I have an abundance of. I teach full-time, run a writing and sewing business, not to mention the things I’d like to do on my own time.
When I see a verse like Matthew 11:28-30, I take a deep breath. After all, Jesus tells me to come to him and he will give me rest.
Because these words are so comforting, I can miss what comes immediately afterward. It says, take my yoke upon you and learn from me.
A yolk was used for two animals to labor together. So, Jesus is saying he will give me rest and yet, I need to work for him and with him.
Yes, we need to physically rest when we need it, but there is a restful peace knowing I am not working alone. God promises to be pulling with us.
He gives us a working rest.
