Who is the Enemy?

2003) We read in multiple places in the book of Psalms that the Psalmists’ enemies are nearby or defeating God’s people. Psalm 35, 59, and 143, for example.

When I read of these foes, it’s easy to assume we don’t have enemies lurking like they did in those days but is this true?

Yes, Satan and his demons are alive and well in our world and his thumbprint is on another enemy that is sometimes overlooked. The enemy can be you.

How many times have we overlooked the things we did right or well in a day and focus on the one thing we didn’t? Do we only hear in our mind’s ear the thoughtless thing we said and not all the other good things? Do we feel we aren’t making any difference in this world?

If Satan can be successful in defeating us within ourselves, he will be defeating a host of others we live and commune with each day.

Paul’s word in Romans 8:31 are useful in times like these. “If God is for us, who can be against us?”

Defining the problem is a necessary part of the solution.
