The Nature of Sheep

1981) As I scroll my social media newsfeeds, I see many cartoons about the nature of dogs. The cartoons I read are funny because the artist has tapped into the behavior of these four-legged creatures.

At my house, my little bundle of red energy will always go to the same spot where I spilled a little leftover turkey. The spill has been cleaned up for months, but he still looks for a bit of wonderful turkey molecules and laps it every time, just in case it reappears.

Psalm 77:20 doesn’t refer to dogs; it speaks about sheep. Asaph reminds us God led his people like a flock in Moses’ day. Here I am reminded of the nature of sheep. I have read sheep aren’t the brightest animals and they must be protected and led continually.

When God refers to us as sheep, he is not insulting our mental acuity; he is pointing out that he understands we are limited where he is not. He promises to guide, protect, and provide for us each day.

Yes, animals have specific behaviors and needs; so do humans. God provides for all.
