Hurt Examined

1871) There are difficult things in this life that can be overwhelming. These can fill our lives with hurt and can include abandonment, betrayal, deceit, indifference and more. The question that shows up to me in these situations is, how do I make the pain go away? The hard answer is, I can’t.

So, if I can’t make the hurt go away, how do I cope in the day to day? This is when I remind myself of what Jesus did when he hurt.

Jesus prayed honestly: Mark 15:34 – My God, why have you abandoned me?

Jesus let the hurt out: John 11:35 – Jesus Wept.

Jesus prayed for those who hurt him: Luke 23:34 – Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.

Jesus gave care and compassion to someone who, most likely didn’t follow him. Luke 22:51 – (After Peter cut off one of the soldier’s ears in the Garden of Gethsemane) – But Jesus answers, “No more of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him.”

Next time you don’t know what to do with your pain, remember Jesus knows how it feels and gave us examples of what to do with the hurt.
