Powerful

2401) That speech was powerful. The movie was powerful. The book was powerful. All these things define this word in terms that humans can understand.

Yet, in 1 Chronicles 29:11, David describes God as powerful, and it means so much more.

The Hebrew word for powerful is gbuwrah, and it focuses on the fact that in his power, God equips his children for whatever task he asks of us.

For example, God asks Moses to go to Pharaoh and tell him to let my people go, and even though Moses didn’t feel equipped, God provided what he needed to be equipped.

Gbuwrah also means to deliver us from any crisis that comes our way. Though he doesn’t always deliver us in the way we think it should be, never-the less he does.

Finally, gbuwrah means God judges his people, seeking justice that is provided for by Jesus’ death on the cross. God is powerful, and it gives me a lot to rejoice over.
