Peace, not Confusion

2396) There are many verses in the Bible I don’t understand, so when I come across one, I like to take a deeper look. 1 Corinthians 14:33 is one of these verses.

Paul tells us God is not a God of confusion but of peace. The reason I have not understood this is because there have been so many times in my life I have not been at peace and I’d cry out to God for help, and it often seemed like there was only silence from above.

As I reflect on this verse and difficult times in my life, I see storms of emotion. These storms are sometimes hurricane-like. Within these debilitating situations, peace is nowhere in sight.

So why does Paul tell us God is not found in confusion but gives peace when I don’t feel peaceful?

I think one of the answers to this question is that within any storm in our lives, emotions often blind us to what is reality. When we choose to “wait out” these storms of emotions, we can then look to God and remember he is in control and will never leave us nor forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5).

It is at this point we can allow God’s peace to flow over us.

Yes, we are emotional creatures, and this isn’t a bad thing, but learning to let the storm quiet down gives us the ability to let God’s peace come in.
