Reframing

2362) Growing up in the South, I learned that some people there believed one race was superior to others. Reflecting on this, I realize this way of thinking isn’t confined to any one place.

When I hear a racist joke, I lose respect for the speaker. I redirect their passive aggression by turning the belittling into admiration of the race referred to, focusing on the strength and accomplishments of the group.

The author of Proverbs 24:17-18 tells us not to rejoice when your enemy falls. My first thought might be, rejoice? Why? They have done this and that to me.

At this point, it’s a good idea to reframe my thinking. This has nothing to do with my feelings. Yes, they did this to me, but God will take care of them in the way he thinks is best. I don’t need to rejoice in their down fall. The few moments it takes to reframe situations may produce insight we may not have had before.
