2322) Teaching grammar to young scholars isn’t easy because the English language is confusing and often refuses to follow rules and patterns.
Though this may be true, understanding basic grammar is important for communication. Noticing each word can be helpful, too.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus.
Look closely at each word. Paul instructs us to give thanks in all circumstances, and he doesn’t use for all circumstances. I think this little word, in, is important.
Paul isn’t saying to give thanks for the horrible, sometimes heinous things which happen to us–though I think we could do this with enough faith.
Instead, he tells us to be thankful in the horrible; choosing to find the sometimes small speck of mercy he gives in the midst of a storm. Is giving thanks for everything easy? No. Easy things don’t hold much value.
